It is not too late to pivot in 2017

Use TODAY to get started on making a pivot that will make the rest of 2017 your best year ever!

We are just past the halfway point of 2017. It is CRAZY to think that this year has gone by so quickly. The world is a different place than it was in January, for better or worse.

You are in a different place today too!

I know I am! The Aebli Group is as well. There have been some loses, but a lot of great wins as well. As the CEO, I try to do my best to focus on the wins and learn from our losses.

If I am being honest, the first half of the year has not gone the way I expected. Truth be told, I expected the wins to be bigger and hoped that each loss would be smaller. BUT, today is a new day. As much as I sometimes dwell on failure, I really focus on the pivot is has given me.

The pivot and reaction to where you are is way more important than the actual “loss.”

Have you been able to get as much accomplished as you wanted? More? What is your pivot? Do you know the next step on your path?

Here is thing; you can make a change NOW! You do not have to apologize for where you have been, or be the person or business you were a year ago, a month ago, a week ago or 15 minutes ago.

At TAG, we have some mighty goals planned for the second half of the year, but they will only be attainable if we are able to correctly pivot and cream the steps necessary to get to the next milestone. I just rewrote our 6-month calendar and put in place all of the actions we need to take and by when to better plan what is next.

Don’t discount that you have missed your projections, or not met a goal. The point is, we all have the same amount of time in a day and depending on how you spend that time will determine if you’re able to keep going.

Elon Musk is famous for encouraging an 80-100-work week. His rational is that if your competition is working 40 hours each week but you’re putting in 80 productive hours, you can get 2x as much done, 2x as many plans tested, 2x as many projects completed, and if something doesn’t work out the way you were hoping, you can pivot 2x as fast as the competition.

post-10-1

Technology has also eliminated all of the barriers for entry. Lyft and Uber do not own a single car, Airbnb doesn’t own a single property, and Instagram doesn’t have a single camera. If you have a manufacturing company, Tesla is now the most valuable car company in the world and makes just 3% of the cars built in the US each year. With the use of 3D printing and analytics, you’re able to move more quickly than ever before.

That also means more competition.

That is why it is so important to be driving your own narrative and take the initiative to show your customers & clients that you are the expert in your space. What separates you and makes you unique and different than all of the others in your industry?  Then you need to answer, “Why do your clients need what you have?” And finally, “What do you want your clients to do to engage with you?”

We are working backwards here in this post by starting with evaluating how the year has been because it helps you define if you’re happy with your current results or not. Now that you have done that, identify where you need to pivot to, and then ask the difficult questions of what makes you different? Why? and What do you want the client to do about it?

Don’t wait until Monday or until you wake up tomorrow to get started. Go get yours now!

Justin Starbird

About the Author: Justin Starbird I have been fortunate to have had several entrepreneurs that came before me take the time to “pull back the curtains” and allow me to be a part of their multi-million dollar companies… and actually value my input. They allowed me to see their mistakes and learn from their real-world lessons so that I wouldn’t have to pay the expensive costs of experience on my own. Additionally, they taught me what really works and the importance of action - not just ideas.
